As CPAs, we often hear comments such as ‘you must have a lot of free time after April 15th ‘and ‘I bet you play a lot of golf in the summer time’.  Actually, this is far from the truth.  I have always found it interesting that a lot of people have a perception that we work a tremendous amount of hours all winter only to kick back and relax, and hardly work, the rest of the year.

Obviously, the reality is that we are quite busy meeting our March and April filing deadlines, but we are also very busy the rest of the year.  A large number businesses and individuals go on extension and those returns need to be filed by September 15th and October 15th, respectively.  Also, many businesses, in particular not-for-profit entities have fiscal year ends, typically June 30th.  At Paresky Flitt & Company, we also perform audits of 401k plans, business valuations and we conduct peer reviews.  Estate planning and business consulting are other areas we focus on in our ‘offseason’.

Summer is a great time to start some early tax planning.  We get a good amount of calls for this because half way through the year most companies should have a feel for how they are doing.  These types of projects are rarely completed during our traditional busy season. Although we do not work the long hours that we do in the winter, and we do take our vacation time as well, the summer is still a busy time for our firm.  This wide variety of challenging work is just one of the things we enjoy about working here.

So when you think of us in the summer time give us a call, we are here and ready to help!
